Job Description

Clayton Services is searching for a Contract EHS Manager to join a growing energy company in Northwest Houston. The Contract EHS Manager will lead environmental, health, and safety initiatives for a major energy infrastructure project. This role supports the safe construction, commissioning, and startup of a large-scale facility that utilizes cutting-edge gasification technology to produce low-carbon energy products.

The successful candidate will have deep expertise in industrial safety—particularly within chemical or process plant settings—and strong experience interfacing with stakeholders at all levels, including regulatory agencies and local emergency services.

Job Type: Contract

Pay Rate: $75.00/hour

EHS Manager Work Arrangement:

  • Part-time contract role, with the potential for a full-time, long-term, or permanent conversion.
  • Requires periodic work onsite in the company's Houston-area office (NW Houston).
  • Regular coordination with teams in South Carolina and Louisiana.
  • Travel to plant sites, vendor locations, and meetings as required.

Contract EHS Manager Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic EHS leader for the construction and operations teams.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive HSE programs, policies, and metrics.
  • Establish KPIs and targets aligned with corporate objectives and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure contractor and project team compliance with applicable safety regulations.
  • Promote a strong safety-first culture across all project phases.
  • Provide guidance on crisis management, incident response, and risk mitigation.
  • Lead root cause analysis and investigations of safety-related events.
  • Support industrial hygiene efforts and facilitate risk assessments.
  • Provide targeted HSE training and field-level mentoring for project personnel.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and safety associations to promote best practices.
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory updates and industry innovations.
  • Develop site security measures and support implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Contract EHS Manager Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial safety, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in EHS roles within process industries, energy, or heavy industrial construction.
  • Experience in EHS documentation, policy development, and compliance strategies.
  • Direct involvement in EHS leadership during engineering, startup, and operations of large-scale facilities.
  • Proven record of leading risk assessments and implementing safety enhancements.
